Position Details: Title: Specialist Radiation Oncologist (SMO)
Department: Radiation Oncology Service, Auckland District Health Reports to: Service Clinical Director Radiation Oncology Service
Purpose of Position:
The key purpose of this position is to provide clinical care for patients under the care of the Oncology Department. The position will also involve participation in teaching, research and development of services
1. Service Delivery, Clinical Leadership and Liaison a).To take part in the clinical management of oncology patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting including the planning and supervision of radio therapeutic treatments. To conduct new patient assessment and follow-up clinics at Auckland City Hospital and at regional sites (Counties Manukau DHB, Waitemata DHB & Northland DHB) as agreed with the Service Manager and Clinical Director. b).To be involved in the provision and development of various clinical subspecialties within the Radiation Oncology service depending on individual subspecialty interest, competency and credentialing. To develop an area of special expertise, that will enhance the scope of the department. c).To attend and participate in appropriate clinical meetings within the hospital and at other hospitals. d).To advise and assist radiation therapist, physicist, and nursing staff within the Radiation Oncology service. e).To participate and assist in the Radiation Oncology on call roster
2. Service Quality
To advise the Clinical Director, Radiation Oncology, about matters that may affect the quality of the service. b).To participate in the quality audit programme of the Service, including chart rounds, accreditation and credentialing processes. c).To be able to resolve patient and staff complaints concerning the Radiation Oncology Service in an appropriate and timely manner in conjunction with the Clinical Director, Radiation Oncology. d) To improve the clinical quality of the service, and the local and international profile of the service through direct participation in research projects
