The Role
- To provide a high standard of clinical practice and clinical expertise and effective Child, Adolescent and Family mental health services to the community and region.
- To provide advice to Service Manager, Child, Adolescent, and Family, on Child, Adolescent and Family mental health management matters and professional standards of practice.
- To provide supervision and instruction for Resident Medical Officers rostered to the Child, Adolescent, and Family mental health service.
Client Profile
Our public hospital is a 350-bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000. In addition, our hospital is a teaching hospital.
We provide comprehensive community-based mental health services including:
- Extended hours crisis intervention service
- Community-based mental health care
- Adult Acute inpatient services (including intensive mental health care) Day activity/rehabilitation programs
- General hospital liaison psychiatry
- Outreach clinics
- Child, adolescent, and family mental health services
- Old Age Psychiatry services
- Alcohol and drug services
- Specialist Maori mental health services (Oranga Hinengaro)
- Early intervention services
- Intensive community rehabilitation services.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for registration with the Medical Council to enable practice within the Organisation’s area.
- Holds a higher qualification appropriate to the specialty, which is recognized by the Medical Council of New Zealand for Vocational Registration in Psychiatry with post-graduate qualifications in Child, and Adolescent Mental Health.
- Commitment to auditing standards of practice.
- Proven knowledge of modern skills and techniques within Child, Adolescent, and Family Mental Health.
- Has demonstrated a high standard of clinical care, management and time management skills.
- Is committed to continually updating skills and treatment methods.
- Has demonstrated teaching skills in respect of junior medical staff, other staff, patients and their families.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work effectively within a service and organization committed to continuous quality improvement and achieving accreditation.
Location
Palmerston North is a city on New Zealand's North Island. In the center, the New Zealand Rugby Museum displays sporting memorabilia, including vintage All Blacks uniforms. Next door is the Te Manawa art, science, and history museum. Adjacent to the Manawatu River, Victoria Esplanade is a sprawling park with a duck pond and rose gardens. Just outside the city is Manawatu Gorge, with forested hills and native bushland.
