Basic Trainee Opportunities
Most paediatricians in New Zealand are generalists, and so basic trainees will initially be given general Paediatrics and NICU runs across the Hospital. Across the hospitals there is a supportive environment when it comes to teaching and education - journal clubs, tutorials, case-based teaching, X-Ray conferences, grand rounds and Paediatric community teaching are some of the professional development opportunities you will have. Once employed into the training programme you are expected to complete 2-3 years of basic training before progressing to complete your advanced training.
Advanced Trainee Opportunities
This Region also offers a unique experience for Advanced Trainees; one year blocks composed of two six month runs are available in areas of interest which can be accredited for training through RACP. These opportunities include; Emergency Care, Consult Liaison, Neonatal intensive care , Adolescent Medicine, Ambulatory Care (Outpatient clinic), Inpatient Paediatrics Subspecialty clinics and a six month fellow opportunity at the Hospital. These runs are aimed at advanced trainees and catered for accordingly in terms of training opportunities and experienced gained. Advanced trainees are also able to complete basic runs as available.
