About the role:
The orthopaedic service at the hospital is a generalist one with both elective and trauma work undertaken. In particular, elective hip and knee replacement surgery and general orthopaedic trauma surgery will be an essential part of any orthopaedic SMO’s workload as well as participation in the on-call roster.
We’re keen to appoint a surgeon with a paediatric interest to work alongside the hospital's current paediatric surgeon who is planning to retire within the next few years. Other subspecialties we would consider favourably include, spinal and foot/ankle surgery.
You would be one of 8 Orthopaedics Specialists. There is also a Medical Officer, 6 Registrars, and House Officers.
Area of Responsibilities:
- Delivery of clinical care to patients requiring orthopaedic service and assisting with the delivery of clinical care to patients requiring orthopaedic services
- Assisting with the provision of acute specialist care for orthopaedics
- Patient centred care
- Health promotion and disease prevention
- Interpersonal relations
- In-service education of Resident Medical Officers
- Formal teaching activities for other health professionals
- Attending relevant training/supervision programmes
- Management of Resident Medical Officers
- Maintenance of adequate records and reports to referring doctors
- Knowledge and practice updated and maintained
- Participate in quality assurance programmes
You must hold FRACS Orthopaedics or equivalent to be eligible for vocational registration in Orthopaedic Surgery with MCNZ.
