Essential Criteria
• Appreciation of Maori culture and rural/community surgical services experience
• Either general registration or be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council
• Experience in working Rural Community Health Services
• Relevant training and experience
• Have a current driver's license
• Experience at Registrar level in an acute hospital setting
• Excellent communication skills & computer literacy

About the Hospital
This is a well-established public hospital which, provides health services such as 29-bed inpatient services, child health, community rehabilitation services, cancer health, community physiotherapy services, district nursing services, radiology, maternity services, urology, sexual health services, speech-language therapy, oral health services, and community health services. This position provides outpatient care from the main team location in Whangarei as well as from satellite clinics in other parts of the district.
You will assist with surgery in the operation theatre; assess the surgical patient on arrival at Emergency; do a clinical assessment of the patient on admission and to record it clearly in the patients’ medical records, and give appropriate instructions for the preparation of patients pre-operatively. As a General Surgical Registrar, you will work alongside skilled and supportive general surgical, colorectal, upper GI, breast and oncoplastic, melanoma, endocrine and laparoscopic surgeons and have the opportunity to learn and undertake endoscopy and minor procedure plastics and skin lesion removals.
