As the Organ Donor Surgeon you will be working in the Intra-abdominal Transplant Service at Hospital. This service undertakes 60 deceased donor and 60 live donor organ acquisition procedures each year. The organs procured contribute to the 60 liver, 120 kidney and 5 pancreas transplants that are done annually in the unit.
This part time permanent position (half time) will involve multi-organ procurement from deceased donors (both brain dead and after circulatory arrest) on a rostered basis and, when sufficient competency has been demonstrated, laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy for elective kidney transplants. Additional skills that may be utilised include liver splitting and ex-vivo organ perfusion.
The role will also contribute to administrative functions such as audit activities and other projects within the Transplant Service and to medical under-graduate and post-graduate teaching and participate in clinical research as needed.
Education & Qualifications
- Tertiary degree in Medicine
- Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have completed a Specialty Fellowship training programme recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent.
- Demonstrate relevant postgraduate training and experience with postfellowship training in transplant surgery
Experience/Knowledge
- Significant experience in similar position
- Ability to participate in a
- multidisciplinary team approach to health care.
- Ability to undertake the physical tasks required of the position.
