The Child and Family Unit, located in the Hospital, has a rare opportunity for a fulltime Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dynamic team.
Vacancies for Psychiatrists in this service do not come along often and we are seeking energetic, innovative and passionate applicants for this fulltime role.
The Child and Family Unit is the largest acute child and adolescent inpatient unit in New Zealand with 18 acute beds. The unit admits from the top half of the North Island including the Midlands region, metro Auckland and Northland. In addition the CFU hosts the 3-bed Auckland metro Mother and Baby Unit. This presents an opportunity for a Psychiatrist to work across a variety of interesting sub-specialties.
The Medical Hospital offers opportunities to develop your skills as a clinician within an experienced and capable multi-disciplinary team. You will be working to the top of your scope with a cohort of committed, and resourceful colleagues.

Education Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry, able to be registered by the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Specialist
- Membership/ associate status in relation to RANZCP
- Current MCNZ practising certificate
- Full NZ Drivers Licence
Professional Skills and Abilities
- Clinical expertise in one or more assessment and therapeutic intervention techniques in the medical, social, behavioural and emotional needs of a client group
- Communication skills in consultation, networking and liaison
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to Taha Maori and te reo me ona tikanga (biculturalism) and cross-cultural clinical practice
- Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with clients and their whanau/families
- Organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure
Experience / Knowledge
- Minimum of five years relevant experience in health since qualifying as a Medical Practitioner
