About the Hospital
We have facilities for exercise ECG’s, ambulatory monitoring, echocardiography (including TOE), diagnostic cardiac angiography, and the insertion and follow up of permanent pacemakers. There is a well-established heart failure service and the service is implementing the national standards for cardiac care.
Our Cardiology Service is currently undertaking extensive planning to develop the existing service including dedicated diagnostic angiography and pacemaker implantation facilities.
The Role
- To provide a high standard of clinical practice and clinical expertise, contributing to the provision of efficient and effective general medical and cardiology services to the community and region
- To assist with the supervision and instruction for Resident Medical Officers rostered to the medical
- service.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for registration with the Medical Council to enable practice within the Organisation’s area
- Holds a higher qualification appropriate to the specialty, which is recognized by the Medical Council of New Zealand for Vocational Registration in Internal Medicine/Cardiology
- Has been qualified at least seven years and has had at least five years' experience in the specialty of cardiology
- Commitment to auditing standards of practice
- Has demonstrated a high standard of clinical care, management and time management skills
- Is committed to continually updating skills and treatment methods
- Has demonstrated teaching skills in respect of junior medical staff, other staff, patients and their families
- Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work effectively within a service and organization committed to continuous quality improvement and to achieving accreditation
Location
Palmerston North is a city on New Zealand's North Island. In the center, the New Zealand Rugby Museum displays sporting memorabilia, including vintage All Blacks uniforms. Next door is the Te Manawa art, science, and history museum. Adjacent to the Manawatu River, Victoria Esplanade is a sprawling park with a duck pond and rose gardens. Just outside the city is Manawatu Gorge, with forested hills and native bushland.
